The number of homes on the market continues to be down and buyer demand is continuing to rise. The question is what are home buyers in Crow Wing County looking for? According to a recent survey by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) it appears size matters. Today’s buyers are looking for homes that average 2,000 square feet. The problem that they are encountering is half of the homes in the United States are an average of 40 years old, and many of these homes just do not accommodate the increased demand in size.
One-third of current homes on the market across the nation have 2,000 or more livable square feet according to the NAHB. What does that mean for sellers who have a home smaller than 2,000 square feet?
Location also plays a big part in what home buyers in Crow Wing County and across the nation are looking for. Many buyers realize that sacrificing some things in order to obtain a more important amenity is just part of the home buying game.
If your home is on the smaller side than what a particular buyer may have been looking for, but it has room for expansion and is in an area that boasts a top school district, then this makes your home a bigger potential for that buyer.
What you as a seller can do. Determine who your target buyer is. Highlight those amenities that your home offers if it is lacking in size. Large oversize furniture can make a home appear smaller than it really is. Remove any extra furniture or any furniture that does not compliment your home.
Finally, if your home is smaller than the 2,000 square feet that many buyers are searching for do not dismay. The right buyer is out there. Do your part as the seller by emphasizing the wonderful amenities that your home offers.
