Homes Listed For Sale in Winter Sell Faster

snow(2) If you are considering waiting till spring to sell your home you may want to reconsider. A recent report by Redfin shows that homes sell faster in the winter than any other season. According to Redfin a home listed for sale in the winter has a 9 percent likelihood of selling, will also sell a week faster, and will sell for 1.2 percent higher than when listed any other season. Redfin came to this conclusion by analyzing homes listed from March 22, 2011 through March 21, 2013,

“The data contradicts the popular sentiment that selling a home during winter is more difficult because there are fewer people looking to buy. Further, the advantage of selling a home in winter holds true in temperate climates as well as those with harsh winters,” according to a Redfin statement.

According to Redfin’s data homes listed in winter (December 21st thru March 21st) have a 65% likelihood of selling within 6 months, compared to homes listed in spring (March 22nd thru June 21st) which have a 56% likelihood of selling within 6 months of being listed.

Many believe the reason for these numbers is that home buyers looking to move in the winter season are serious, and are ready to make a move right away.
