The warmer days of spring and summer seem far off, but they will be here before we know it. Destiny Cruises recently announced it would make Gull Lake home this summer. The 65-foot long, double deck cruise ship can accommodate up to 120 passengers at any one time.
The vessel is known as North Start, is in the process of being built by SkipperLiner for the cost of $1.7 million. SkipperLiner is located in La Crosse, WI and is known as one of the largest passenger vessel manufactures in the country. The North Start is planning to make its debut in mid-May and will operate throughout mid- October, dependent on the ice on Gull Lake. Ernie’s on Gull is where the vessel will call home while in Gull Lake.
“We have studied the market for over a year and selected Gull Lake due to its proximity and readiness,” said Destiny Cruises partner Liz Diedrich, owner of Twin Cities-based research and marketing firm Diedrich RPM. “We have already begun hiring local talent and anticipate that 85 percent of the operating expenditures will be local. Since we intend to be an attraction in Brainerd, we are interested in becoming involved in the community’s activities and programs to establish our residency in the area. Toward that goal, the vessel owners have met with area hospitality partners and resorts to include them as tentative pick-up points for their guests.”
The North Start will also be available for private charter. It is ideal for weddings, family reunions, receptions and office parties. Brunch, lunch, and dinner cruises and themed events will be offered.
